Ten Apples Up On Top

We read Ten Apples Up On Top! We tasted a red, yellow, and green apple and then wrote our name under the one we liked best. Red had the most votes this time. We looked at the star that the seeds create when you cut an apple in half, and we painted with the apple halves. They also drew a picture of themselves and used stamp pads to make fingerprint apples on their heads. After they were finished with their picture they counted the apples and told me how many apples they had on top. The children decided they would like to try and stack apples on their heads like in the book, some of them could do it! We have also been learning fun ways to exercise. Yesterday they played duck duck goose and today they played don’t let the balloon touch the ground.

Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice!

Today was the perfect example of letting the children guide what we learn. Almost every single time we play with play dough the children will get the juicer out of the kitchen center make some oranges or limes and pretend to juice them. So as I was walking through Wal-Mart I see a juicer on sale for $.50 and I remember the children pretending to juice the play dough. I grab it and head over to the produce dept. I got a bag of big, beautiful, juicy orange for $7.00. This was the best $7.50 I ever spent. Rachel Ray says that if you roll your oranges, lemons, or limes before you juice them you will get more juice out of them. So as the children were waiting for their turn to use the juicer they rolled their oranges around on the table. They took turns juicing and they each got to drink the juice they made. They loved it! One of my favorite things we have done for sure! This one is a keeper and it all came from watching the children play with play dough! We also celebrated a Birthday today :o)

Today we read Muncha! Muncha! Muncha! it is about 3 bunnies that sneak into a garden and eat all the veggies! We made a chart of our favorite Fruits and Veggies – Carrots are the most popular vegetable and Cherries the most popular fruit. We also drew a picture of our favorite fruit and vegetable. They exercised in the motor room, and made Miss Vicki a Happy Birthday Sign for the kitchen!

Grocery Store – Healthy Eating

This week we will still have our grocery store dramatic play area and we will be talking about healthy eating. Today we had a discussion about Sometime Food and All the Time Food. We cut out pictures of food from grocery ads, we then decided if it was a sometimes food or an all the time food. These kiddos know their healthy food! Good Job Parents!!

Happy Friday!

We are really loving this weather! The BIG blocks on the playground have been very popular this week. They took the cubes apart last Friday, and since then they have discovered a whole new way of playing with them. Today, we had a cage, a yellow school bus, a bed, a crib, a boat, and a house! I love to watch them work together, problem solve, and create. I really love it when they ask us to play with them! One of our kiddos brought a book to share with us at circle time. He did such an awesome job reading it to the class! We needed a sign for our Grocery Store so that is what the children worked on today. They decided it should be called PLA Grocery. I posted a picture of our sign at http://www.facebook.com/plaacademy

PreK Screenings, Teeth

What if you Had Animal Teeth?!  That was the book we read today.  It is a silly book about losing your teeth and instead of people teeth growing in animal teeth grew in instead!  We also enjoyed the warm weather and had an extra long playground time.  Good thing we did, it is COLD now!! The children decided to use the giant outside blocks to build towers around themselves!  So much great critical thinking skills were being used on the playground this morning!

Teeth – PreK Screenings

We read the book Tooth Trouble today.  We talked about taking care of our teeth and how important it is to brush our teeth!  I was very happy to see that most of the children said they brush their teeth at least 2 times a day!  We also continued with our screening and we are loving this weather!  The pictures are from the playground yesterday afternoon.

Teeth – Grocery Store – Preschool Screenings
