Special Guest and Skeletons

Nurse Katie, from the Camden Country Health Department, came in this morning to talk to the children about Halloween Safety.  She also brought an information sheet for parents, a coloring sheet, and a glow necklace for the children to wear on Halloween.  The children were a wonderful audience!  Nurse Katie came in costume, she gave the children  wonderful information and kept them very engaged!  We may even make the local paper!  They took pictures and were sending them to the paper, keep an eye out!

We talked about skeletons today.  Yes, skeletons are something you think about when you think of Halloween, but they are also something all of us have inside our body.  We read a book earlier in the week called Halloween Hustle.  In this book a silly skeleton likes to dance, but he can’t keep himself from falling apart.  He tries rubber bands, twine, and finally some super sticky glue to keep his bones together.  We have bones inside of our body too, and they are very important.  Without our skeleton we would just be a blob on the ground.   We also talked about one way you can see your bones is to get an x-ray.  For art time we made a skeleton by gluing a head and then tearing paper to make the bones of the skeleton, we also made an x-ray by tracing our hand and gluing cotton swabs on the inside to look like the bones in our hand.

Thank You So Much Miss Wendy for playing with us today.  Miss Brittany will be taking a few days off, but she will be back soon!

REMINDER: Trick-or-Treating Field Trip and Halloween Party are Friday.  If you have any questions call, text, or e-mail.

Not so scary MoNsTeRs

We are learning a new song that I hope they will perform at the Halloween Party.  It is called “Looking For Dracula!”  We read one of my favorite childhood books the Monster at the end of this Book starring Lovable, Furry Old Grover.   For table time we did Grover inspired art work.  Everyone got the same materials and none of them look exactly alike!  They all got a paper plate, 2 white circles, 2 small black circle stickers, a pile of “fur” (yarn), and a bottle of glue.  In the middle of the table there were black mouth shapes, and blue and pink nose shapes.  They were given the materials and no instructions, it was all about the process.  They are all different and all beautiful!

REMINDER: Our Halloween Party and Trick-or-Treat Field Trip is next Friday, Oct. 31st.  Everyone is invited even if it is not your child’s normal day/time.  Please, return your permission slips ASAP.  Thank You!

Monsters and Music Time with Miss Mika

Today our VIP’s Mom, Grandma, and Grandpa joined us for breakfast.  Miss Mika also did music time with us.  I think we have talked her into joining us once a month for Music time with Miss Mika!  Yay!  The kiddos love having special visitors teach us new things!  Thank You so much Miss Mika!  We loved your visit this morning, and of course Grandma and Grandpa, too!

We read the book Jeremy Draws a Monster.  This monster is very rude and does not use nice manners.  Jeremy gets tired of the grumpy monster and draws a suitcase and a bus ticket to make him leave!  Our table activity was to draw our own monsters.  They drew some awesome, Not so scary monsters!

We also learned how to make an N in sign language, sang our ABC song, and learned our N song.

5 Little Pumpkins

We made our own 5 little pumpkins sitting on a gate picture.  You can find the words by following this link… http://www.dltk-teach.com/minibooks/halloween/felt.htm.  We also made a pumpkin patch like the one from our book yesterday.  Spookley was a square pumpkin and when they planted his seeds what grew was all different shape, sizes, and colors of  pumpkins.  We  had a few more ghost feet to make, played with some black and orange play dough, did some stick songs, and we really enjoyed the beautiful weather!

They found some mud!  Sorry about the muddy socks/shoes/pants but they did have fun!

Pumpkin Goo and Ghost Paint

We read one of my favorite pumpkin books,  The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin.   “You can’t judge a book, or a pumpkin… by it’s cover.”   We cut open our pumpkin we hammered on yesterday, and observed the inside.  We then made pumpkin goo inside of our pumpkin; here is the link for pumpkin goo http://www.learnplayimagine.com/2013/10/pumpkin-slime-recipe-fall-sensory-play.html?m=1  We painted with ghost paint, and added a picture from our book to the easel for painting inspiration.

Police Officer, Pumpkins, and Ghost!

Our VIP’s family brought in a special treat for breakfast this morning… we had donuts!   They also joined us for circle time and our VIP shared his daddy with us for share time.  They brought in bags, police hats, and we even got to check out his patrol car.  The children had so much fun meeting another real life hero!  Thank You to our VIP’s family for joining us this morning!  We made ghost with our feet (and hands for the 2 that wouldn’t let me paint their feet), hammered golf tees into a pumpkin, played in our Halloween sensory tub, and had our state inspection today… No Violations at all not even paperwork!  YAY!  What a busy morning!

Pumpkins

This week our THEME is Pumpkins and Ghost and our letter of the week is B.  Miss Coli, from the Camden County Library in Camdenton, came for her first visit of the new school year.  She will make monthly visits to share some stories with the children.  Today, she shared 2 books and we did a marching song and an egg shaker song.  We love our visits with Miss Coli!  Thank you so much for coming and we will see you next month!  We made a Halloween Sensory Table that we will be playing with the rest of the month; It has black and orange rice, plastic bats, spiders and bugs, test tubes, and tweezers.   We made pumpkins, Jack-O-Lanterns, and a pumpkin patch out of play dough, and did Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate.  One of our kiddos brought in a bunch of beautiful white roses, we decided to turn it into a Science Experiment so we put them in cups of food coloring and water.  We will be watching them this week to see if anything happens!
