Christmas and a Birthday
Thank You to Miss Mika for joining us for music time today! The cups and bells were so much fun to learn, and the Reindeer Hokey Pokey is always fun! We used Christmas Stamps to make wrapping paper, played with Christmas decorations, and worked on our parent gifts again. We also celebrated a Birthday today! Spidey was found sitting on some blocks pretending he was Santa.
REMINDER: Christmas Party Friday 10:45-11:30 please bring in a wrapped Christmas book for our gift exchange, and every child is invited to attend. Parents Night Out Friday Night from 6:00-10:00, if you signed up please bring or have your child wear their PJs! Mom/Friend Cookie Exchange is Sunday. PLA will be closed Dec. 22 – Jan. 2.
Christmas Around the World
Today, we learned about Christmas in England. A lot of our Christmas Traditions came from England two examples are sending Christmas cards and kissing under the mistletoe. We made art with green triangles and brown foam squares, as well as glue, stickers, markers and crayons. We also worked on gifts, but those are a surprise! Spidey had to go to the Elf Hospital Thursday night, because he was touched and lost his magic. He was back today, and made a mess on the kitchen counter. I think he was trying to make a snow angel in flour. I promise Polar Express Day pictures are coming, they are on Big Emiliea’s camera and I keep forgetting to download them. I am sad to say Miss Brittany will be leaving us, and her last day will be Thursday. It has been so much fun working with you and the children and I are going to miss you so much! I hope the future has great things in store for you! We love you and hope you visit often! Miss Vicki will be working more hours and you will see more of Miss Wendy, too!
Polar Express, Trains, and Gingerbread
We read The Gingerbread Baby and made sticky art Gingerbread men. We added some Cinnamon and spices to make it a multi-sensory art experience! We painted with jingle bells, made Christmas cookies out of play dough, and had a lot of fun playing! We collected dimes and learned that they are worth 10 cents, we counted by 10s all the way to $6.50! Spidey made us a Christmas Countdown Chain!
Polar Express, Trains, & Gingerbread
We read The Gingerbread Man, and added masks to dress-up center so they could act it out during center time. We decorated foam gingerbread man cutouts. We collected nickels for our Christmas is Sharing Family. We learned that nickels are worth 5 cents, and we counted by 5’s all the way to $3.50! Thank You so much for participating! Spidey was found on the fire extinguisher in the Kitchen, the children think he wants to be a firefighter!
REMINDER: Book orders are due tonight! Books make great Christmas gifts and you have a coupon too! If you order books for gifts and you don’t want your child to see them just send me a quick note and I will hide them. Tomorrow is Dime Day, and Thursday is Polar Express Day don’t forget to send your child in their pajamas!
Polar Express, Trains, and Gingerbread
St. Nicholas Day
Tomorrow is St. Nicholas Day, it is a Hungarian Tradition where children set out their polished boots for St. Nicholas to fill them with treats. We decorated a boot and hung it on our cubbies. We hope that St. Nicholas can make a stop at PLA, too! We made cookies out of play dough, and played with our new little Christmas Tree! If you have trouble keeping your child away from your Christmas Tree, try buying them their own small one that they can decorate as much as they like. Spidey made himself the VIP!
Christmas Trees and Lights
We added Jingle Bells to our magnet blocks, and they have loved creating with the new addition; Today, it was also discovered that they stick on our magnetic train set! We found and circled the letter l in our song book, and practiced writing the letter L in shaving cream. We decorated giant Christmas lights, and had a lot of fun playing!
Spidey, must have thought our Lucky Bamboo needed a little Holiday Cheer!
Christmas Trees and Lights
We decorated more triangles for our class tree, and painted with plastic spoons. I showed them how you could make it look like a string of Christmas lights, but most of them just enjoyed painting with a spoon! We read Turkey Claus, it was a cute and silly Christmas book about a turkey that escaped Thanksgiving Dinner, but was afraid he wouldn’t get so lucky for Christmas Dinner. The Turkey book reminded the children of our Thanksgiving songs so we sang Albuquerque Turkey and changed the end to for our Christmas Dinner instead of Thanksgiving Dinner. Spidey was a bad elf and left the children “snowball” donuts for breakfast! I told him I did not approve of the sugary breakfast and maybe he needs to be on the Naughty List! The children, of course, thought that was hilarious, and they loved the sugary treat :o)
