All About Me

Instead of music and movement time this morning we decided the playground was a better idea. We are getting spoiled with the beautiful weather! We shared some of our All About Me Bags and will finish tomorrow with the rest. I posted pictures on our Facebook page. We read a book about how to stay safe and made a list of ways to stay safe. Table time was very short because our me bags took a long time to get through, but they loved it! For table time we practiced our name and counted how many letters we have in our name.
REMINDER: Bring in me bags tomorrow if you haven’t shared yet. No school Monday, September 7th.

I Like Myself

We read I Like Myself. We then looked in a mirror and the older kiddos said something that they like about themselves. The younger kiddos had trouble telling me something,  but they still had fun looking in the mirror 🙂  We drew self portraits at table time. I glued a copy of their cubby picture on their paper for them to look at while they drew. We welcomed a new friend and celebrated a birthday today!!
REMINDER: We will start sharing our Me Bags tomorrow. Please remember to send them in.

All About Me

We read Be Yourself. In the book it tells you to be a friend, be loving, be determined, be helpful, be active, be creative, and believe. The book explains each one but I also asked the children their thoughts on each one. After the book I asked the children to finish the sentence I can…

At table time today, we used a picture starter of 2 googly eyes glued to a piece of paper. They had fun drawing and telling us what they created. We had a couple of monsters and an alien just to name a few.
REMINDER: ALL About Me bags are due back on Thursday or Friday so we can share them during Circle Time.

All About Me

This week our theme is All About Me! We will be talking about things that are the same and different about each of us. We will learn about body parts and ways to stay safe. We will also explore our 5 senses.
Today, we read The Colors of Us. We talked about different skin colors and how we are all the same on the inside even when we look different on the outside. The different colors is what makes our world so beautiful. How boring would it be if we all looked the same!?!
After Circle Time the younger children went with Miss Jessica to do art with pictures cut out of magazines of people’s faces. They talked about if they were a boy or a girl and pointed and labeled the different parts of the faces as they created their artwork.
The older children stayed at the circle rug with me and we made a book. They named it People in Pictures. The pictures they used were of people doing activities. They picked the pictures and told me what to write on each page. They did a great job you should read their book if you get a chance. Or ask one of them to read it to you.
All About Me bags are in their cubby. Please return Thursday or Friday. Thank you!

I Can… Paint!

We saved the best for last! The children love to paint and I love it too! I love to see their individual creativity! Painting is completely process art and that is my favorite kind of art. Parents don’t want to see my work they want to see their child’s work! We read When I Build With Blocks. Blocks are one of the most popular centers during Center Time. We are loving the weather this week! This is August right??
Next week our theme is All About Me and there will be a small homework assignment. Check the cubbies early next week for details. Have a wonderful weekend!

I Can… cut and glue

We read Time For School, Mouse and Don’t Eat the Teacher. We danced and played Duck Duck Goose. They did great following instructions and making sure all of their friends had a turn.

Today we learned the proper way to use scissors and glue. We know that you can cut paper and play dough with scissors but that is it! No cutting our hair, or clothes, or friends with scissors. They created beautiful artwork! Dress- up was pretty popular during center time and there was also a lot of writing going on! 🙂

I Can play with play dough!

Today we learned about how to be a class helper! Our jobs this year are attendance helper, flag helper, calendar helper, weather watcher, nursery rhyme helper, line leader, caboose, inspector, and chair/light helper.

image

We learned how to see if we have a job by looking on our circle time board. It was fun adding some new jobs this year! One of our new jobs in Inspector their job is to make sure the classroom is cleaned up at clean up time.

image

We also did one of my favorite fine motor activities and played with play dough! Our book today was Froggy Goes To School.

We are very excited to get our school year started! Today was Miss Jessica’s first official day and we also welcomed a couple new friends! This week we will be learning about everything we can do at school… we will be learning how to follow a schedule, how to follow rules, and how to take care of our things. This is after all their classroom and with that comes great responsibility. We will explore our centers and learn how to clean up our space. All of the toy shelves are labeled with pictures to make this job easier. All of the lower cabinets in the art room are full of art supplies that are always available to the children. We will learn the proper way to take care of all of these art supplies. Today we read Preschool Time, and drew a first day of preschool picture using markers. We learned how to make the markers click so they don’t dry out.
